Yellow and Me

The sun's rays penetrate my window,

waking me up to their beauty.

The school bus picks up the kids,

their smiling faces on display,

backpacks filled to the brim with number 2 pencils.

I crave the citrus taste

coming from a pineapple or a lemon.

My vision is obscured by the tall stalks of the sunflowers,

although I’d rather be watching the sun rise on the beach,

or watching the fireplace flames flare,

spreading warmth throughout my home.
