Wisteria
Katie Mondry
I crawl and hug,
squeeze and constrict;
I bloom and cascade.
Lavender beauty;
I choke and I strangle,
wind and weaken
the trees I hang upon—
bringing plague and infestation
To their sturdy trunks.
Hidden below the bark
they die and decay
as I bloom and cascade.
Wrapped tightly like a bow,
devastation; my gift.
I decorate their grave
as I dig it for them.
