Wink Quieter
Taking a test I have not
studied for.
The class with a screaming
silence.
A silence I have only heard
when talking to my dad
about my rap career.
Focus thin.
My mind like Wile E Coyote,
staring off into the void of the classroom,
until my teacher meets my line of sight.
Along with a belligerent gaze,
I throw an inaudible wink her way.
Both knowing I’m lost.
Both knowing
the wink was weird.
The test flirting with me
with her big words,
her colorful scantron,
and her silver staple
stealing my attention
as it glimmers in the light.
I wish I was more prepared
for this chance encounter.
All I can do is sit there
mogging the class,
as I confidently fail this midterm.
