So sure, I’m disappointed, but not surprised.

My 16th birthday and I can’t see anyone.

I can’t have a party

or see half of my family,

out of fear of infecting the people I love.

She’s across the country,

yet has consistently texted me

asking what she should get for my sweet 16.

But nothing arrived in the mail from her.

I got packages from my cousins and grandparents,

my friends even drove by to see me and drop stuff off.

But from her?

An empty card with “love, mom, ”

except I never seem to feel that love.
