On Three
Standing at the edge of a tall red cliff
looking up upon the big blue sky
speckled with small singing birds.
Looking down
small pieces of stone sliding off the face
leaving ripples in the water below.
I take a step forward,
pebbles shifting under my feet.
World growing silent,
deafening me.
The familiar voice of my
fiercest enemy, fear.
I feel my feet lift into the air,
the wind catches me in a cradle.
Earth begins to rise around me
the smooth walls growing ever taller.
Closing my eyes as air becomes water,
caught in nature’s cool embrace.
Surfacing to see the sky
while soft sounds return to the world.
The shadowy silence left above
to dissipate into the warm summer air.
