Multitudes

Yo quisiera romper las cadenas (I wish I could break the chains)

Of splitting my culture into two.

Soy como el agua del Océano Pacifico (I’m like the waters of the Pacific Ocean)

I flow from one culture to another,

Lo hago sin esfuerzo. (I do it with no effort)

I am fluid, containing multitudes

Not sure what to call myself,

It’s like an identity crisis.

It’s like being a hypocrite.

What a Hypocrite I am

For wanting to be a whole.

Not a half or a quarter

I am a whole.

Like my ancestors, whole.

Independence, Confidence, Honesty—

I strive to have multitudes.
