Forever Illuminated

I control the current,
but you control my switch—
Keeping me lit or leaving me dim.
I have always been a lamp,
just a simple bulb and plastic.
But I suppose my light caught your eye.
I've lived trying to be the blazing sun—
But blew a fuze
which you graciously repaired.
You never wanted the sun,
because you needed a lamp for your bedside table.
So I am halted for your arrival.
Waiting for my chance to give you that fraction of light
you so desperately need.
