Disintegration

Leaves from trees of the past penetrate the soil.

The sparrows stopped chirping long ago.

Boxes upon boxes of unopened memories

Wait patiently for consciousness.

Aged wood planks creak with every step.

Picture frames sit silently on the shelf

As they numbly wait to fall.

As the dreadful plants pray for rain,

The sparrows chatter once again.

And a sole cat leaps into that buried box,

A reminder of what was once lost.

Memories created with every step,

Once again integrated.

Keepsakes of loves at last wiped of dirt,

Once again connected.

I feel free again

With the lively plants,

With the chattering sparrows,

With the boxes of fond memories,

With the hardwood floors holding reminders,

With the illustrations of dear ones,

And with the world.
