Chandelier
Max Peretson
Catch my breath and hold me.
The bond we have is once
and once only to have.
The chandelier dangles by a thread
but continues to hang for a lifetime.
To dream of a warmth
instead of a lukewarm
would suffice for the cold harsh shoulder I receive.
Yet I love you more than anything
The chandelier swings
With glittering jewels
and the finest exterior
yet the bulbs are dead.
Waiting to be changed by the man who's too busy to care
we ignore it anyway.
We may be no grand ball
but we are us and make me I
Our thread is more than a thread.
It is solid gold.
We are solid gold.
Thank you for everything.
You are the dalia,
the graceful beauty that lightens up the room with envy.
